In recent years, news of online scams targeting seniors—lured by promises of "free offers" or "high returns"—has been heartbreaking, with many victims losing their life savings.
Since 2020, the challenges seniors face in using smart technologies have become a public concern. Social initiatives promoting age-friendly technology have helped increase smartphone adoption among older adults. Yet, many seniors still struggle to identify pop-up ads or navigate legitimate refund processes, leaving them vulnerable to cybercriminals.
On July 14, 2023, QuVideo visited the Baoting Community at Cuiyuan Street to host a short-video philanthropy program focused on cybersecurity and fraud prevention. The session, themed "No Worries—This Time We Won't Be Fooled," aimed to educate seniors while encouraging them to become active cyber law advocates, creating simple short videos to share with friends and family and break the stereotype that older adults are easily scammed.

During the activity, retired participants enthusiastically shared personal experiences with online fraud, such as scammers requesting sensitive bank information under the guise of e-commerce refunds. Many expressed eagerness to learn more about technology and digital security to better protect themselves.
QuVideo provided anti-fraud-themed short video templates within its VivaVideo app, and volunteers from QuVideo's Party Branch guided seniors step-by-step to shoot video clips, add subtitles, and quickly produce short videos to share on social media.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China now has 487 million senior internet users (aged 50 and above), with increasing numbers using smartphones for short videos, messaging, mobile payments, online shopping, and healthcare services. Ensuring that older adults can enjoy the convenience of the digital era while maintaining awareness of online scams is becoming an important social priority.
QuVideo hopes that short-video-based learning can spark seniors' active engagement, encouraging mutual support and helping them navigate digital life safely.
Since 2021, QuVideo's "Class is On! Grandpa & Grandma!" philanthropy programs have reached elderly universities, community centers, and Party member activity rooms, covering diverse themes such as creating travel vlogs and celebrating the Party's 100th anniversary, enabling seniors to document daily life and share meaningful experiences.
